The nation of Vanuatu stretches across 1,300km of the South Pacific Ocean, east of Australia, northeast of New Caledonia and west of Fiji. Kwakea Island is in the northern end of Vanuatu’s chain of islands, a short 20-minute boat ride from Sola Domestic Airport.
From Australia or New Zealand you can fly in to either Espiritu Santo or Port Vila International airports and then get the domestic flight to Sola. As an indication of cost, you can expect around $1,000 AUD for all flights return from Brisbane depending on the time of year.
Our trips all run from a Saturday to Saturday as per the Air Vanuatu flight schedule to and from Sola Airport. The domestic flight path is from Port Villa -> Santo -> Sola and then vice versa on return. Once you get to Sola, we will take it from there!
Remember, we are on ‘Island Time’ here in the South Pacific. Whilst things often run to schedule, you might experience some delays or changes in the smaller domestic flights. We highly recommend you book your flights as a Multi-City Booking with Air Vanuatu via www.airvanuatu.com. If in doubt, call them on Australian number 1300 780 737 or contact Brett for his local knowledge and assistance.
Tuesday: Catch the direct 3-hour International flight from Brisbane to Espiritu Santo and stay there for 4 nights. You’ll have the next 3 days to explore the stunning Blue Holes, Champaign Beach and Million Dollar Point, or scuba dive the world famous SS President Coolidge Wreck during this time in Espiritu Santo. We recommend staying at The Espiritu Hotel if you want to be walking distance to town or Deco Stop Lodge if you’d prefer a quiet place at the top of the hill overlooking Santo.
Saturday: Be ready first thing in the morning to jump on the short 50 minute domestic flight from Espiritu Santo to Sola where Brett will meet you at the airport and the Kwakea Island Adventure begins.
After your 7 nights at Kwakea Island you’ll depart Sola Airport on the Saturday. On the way home, we suggest you fly all the way back to Port Vila for the night. There is plenty to see and do in Port Vila for the day and then you’ll be ready to get the direct flight back to Australia on the Sunday. Or if you’d prefer, you can fly back to Santo for two nights and get the direct service to Brisbane on the Tuesday.
Don’t want to start your holiday on the Tuesday?
No problems, you can get a Friday fight to Port Vila and be ready to jump on the domestic flight to Sola on Saturday morning. The flight times are a little longer and you’ll miss out on the Santo sightseeing.
Don’t want to fly through Brisbane?
Too easy, Air Vanuatu offer flights from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland in to Port Vila. Whichever day you travel, you just need to ensure you’re there in time for the Saturday morning flight to Sola.
Want to pick and choose when you fly from Santo?
Private Charter flights are available and can be arranged by Brett. You can have a plane ready and waiting to take you over the island as soon as you land at Espritu Santo International Airport. Costs for charter flights are approximately $1,800 return Santo to Sola per person based on 6 passengers.
