A private escape

Kwakea is one of Vanuatu’s only privately owned Islands which offers a unique, cultural experience. With your own local, private staff, guests are able to truly immerse themselves in the culture and the Vanuatu way of life.

Kwakea Island (approximately 3km long/ 1km wide) has beautiful untouched white sandy beaches, a large lagoon, beautiful coral reef with snorkelling directly off the beach, a coconut plantation for fresh daily hydration, seamounts close by for hunting the sought after Dogtooth tuna and a forest with an abundance of fruit trees, vegetables and native animals.

Right in the heart of the South Pacific, Vanuatu is made up of 83 Islands.  Kwakea is situated to the remote north of the group. With white sandy beaches, fresh seafood, unique culture and dense rainforests, you can be sure that your visit to the Island will be an experience you will never forget.

Climate

With a tropical/sub-tropical climate you can expect mid 20°C to low 30°C  all year round, with tropical passing rain showers.

During the summer months (November – March) it can get a little more humid, with the chance of the odd low pressure system making an appearance.

Winter months are mild, (April – October) the temperature average is at 24°C. Ocean water temperature varies from 22 to 26 degrees throughout the year making it enjoyable all year round, no matter the weather!

Brett Kerr

Owner and Guide

Growing up in Vanuatu, Brett speaks the local language (Bislama) as well as French and English. He knows the local culture and customs very well and is proud to be a Ni-Vanuatu Citizen. For over a decade, Kwakea Island has been a second home for Brett and is much more than a holiday location, it’s a way of life.

Working as a commercial pilot through the Vanuatu Islands for many years, Brett’s knowledge of the islands is second to none. Brett spends the majority of his time at Kwakea Island and feels very strongly about sharing this part of the world with like-minded people. Brett’s love of spearfishing, the ocean, living off the land and sea and all things this island offers has lead him to create Kwakea Island Adventures. Brett views spearfishing as one of the most sustainable forms of fishing and works with the neighbouring island villages to protect and maintain the reefs around Kwakea, as well as helping to provide food to the neighbouring islands through the traditions of trade and kastom (customs).

Brett also runs a working farm on Kwakea Island, and much of what you will eat is either grown or sourced right there on the island, retrieved from the sea, or traded with the neighbouring islands.

The Kwakea Island crew will take care of everything from cooking of delicious food, to housekeeping, ground maintainence, boat handling, laundry and even the collection of drinking coconuts.

Your private host Brett and the crew will make your Kwakea Island Adventure an unforgettable experience.
